UC Irvine rallied from a 17-point deficit late in the second half to defeat UC Davis, 74-69, Saturday night at the Bren Center.
Davis led, 69-52, with 8:34 to play following a rebound and a basket by Center Brent Wyse. But the Aggies never got another basket, while Irvine (5-2), which used a full-court press to force Davis (2-2) into numerous turnovers, ran off the final 22 points.
Guard Jerry Green’s dunk that followed a turnover by Aggie guard Justin Stern gave Irvine its first lead, 71-69, with 44 seconds left. Green made three of four free throws in the final 22 seconds.
But Davis, which made 10 of its first 14 three-point shots, responded with five three-pointers as part of a 17-0 run.
Green finished with a game-high 24 points, moving him to third on Irvine’s career-scoring list with 1,536 points. Stanlislav Zuzak scored 21 points and Adam Parada scored 20.
