LAPD: All Dolled Up

Re “Move Over Barbie, Here’s Officer West” (Dec. 8), on the new LAPD doll: I am not surprised that he stands menacingly with his gun drawn and his club ready. The LAPD still has no clue about how to present its officers as dedicated human beings who have been trained to de-escalate violence and to protect the peace.
Instead of Officer West and his “fixed glare,” substitute an alert, smiling servant of the law with weapons holstered but at the ready. Then you will have a civic hero and not a military “action figure” that reminds many Angelenos of the serious disciplinary problems that the LAPD has had with renegade officers in recent years.
