A teenager wept in his family’s arms after being sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison for bringing a duffel bag full of bombs and guns into his high school for a killing spree.
Jeremy Getman, 19, admitted he intended to kill when he brought weapons to Elmira’s Southside High School on Valentine’s Day, but realized he couldn’t follow through. He surrendered after students notified officials that he had passed someone a threatening note.
The teen faced 56 counts, but pleaded guilty to two weapon charges and criminal use of a firearm. He had faced 25 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
