A Canyon Country man running across the Sierra Highway early Sunday was struck by a car and killed, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Valentin Toth, 56, was standing in the middle of the highway north of Scherzinger Lane with two other men about 2 a.m., a Santa Clarita Valley’s sheriff’s station report said.
Toth apparently attempted to cross the southbound lanes when he was struck by a car driven by Patricia Williams, 50, of Palmdale.
Toth was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Santa Clarita, where he was later pronounced dead with massive head and internal injuries, authorities said.
A sheriff’s deputy said Toth had symptoms of alcohol intoxication.
No one else was injured in the accident, and no citations were issued.
