Young Emerges Tentatively From Slump

It wasn’t a scoring avalanche, but it was a good start.
UCLA guard Ray Young was feeling good Saturday after making a 25-foot three-point shot against Washington State. Young returned to action after sitting out Thursday’s Pac-10 opener because of a foot injury, and making his only shot was quite a relief. He was three for 29 from three-point range in his previous seven games.
“It felt really good to knock it down,” he said. “I’ve just got to keep it up.”
Young has spent considerable time lately working out with assistant coach Michael Holton, whom he considers a close friend and mentor.
Young still has a way to go. It remains to be seen if he will work his way back into the starting lineup. The Bruins are 3-0 with Jason Flowers starting at shooting guard.

Center Dan Gadzuric had 12 rebounds Saturday, the third consecutive game that he has reached double figures. In the past three games, he has made 19 of 23 shots, a scorching 82.6%.
