Cardiac Science Inc. sold 251 Powerheart defibrillator-monitors in the fourth quarter, resulting in sales of $1.5 million, the Irvine company said Wednesday.
A year earlier, the manufacturer of external defibrillators posted an operating loss of $2.8 million on sales of $100,000.
Cardiac Science said it sold about 734 devices for the year, generating $4.2 million in revenue, compared with $103,000 in 1999. The company recorded an operating loss of $7.6 million for that year.
The company said it anticipates strong revenue growth in 2001 from continued sales of its Powerheart device, new business partnerships, and the combination of its other proprietary technology with existing monitors and external defibrillators.
In addition, the company said new regulatory clearances for its products will expand its market opportunities outside the hospital.
The stock moved up 50 cents to $4.81 a share in Nasdaq trading.
