Chad Phillips can save the halftime speech for another day.
The first-year Canyon coach had already planned out his halftime speech before a Foothill League game against Saugus on Friday.
Earlier in the month, the Cowboys fell, 85-42, to Saugus. But Canyon led by 20 at halftime on the way to a 77-61 victory.
“A lot of teams who get blown out their first [league] game, could have easily lost their next five,” Phillips said. “We were pretty much on the whole time.”
Canyon (14-8, 5-1) devoted 15 minutes of each practice to breaking Saugus’ pressure defense. The result? Only 10 turnovers on Friday.
