UC Graduate Convicted of Gang-Linked Murders

A jury convicted a former UC San Diego honor student Tuesday of four gang-related murders, including the drive-by shooting of a 16-year-old boy.
David Medina 24, faces a possible life sentence when sentenced Aug. 4.
During the monthlong trial, prosecutors said Medina lived a double life. He was a UC San Diego graduate who worked for the city of San Diego and a gang member who owned an arsenal of weapons and recorded an album in which he rapped about “putting fools to sleep.”
Medina’s attorney acknowledged that his client had been associated with a Chula Vista gang since high school, but contended that he never shot anybody.
