Council Denies Appeal, Gives Disney Go-Ahead

Despite concerns from residents, the City Council gave the Walt Disney Co. the go-ahead Tuesday to continue planning for a third theme park.
The council denied an appeal by residents to overturn a Planning Commission decision to let the process continue. City officials said there will be time for public comment later in the process.
Disney officials have not released details about the 78-acre project, saying only that options include a water park, hotels and a shopping, dining and entertainment complex.
Members of Anaheim Homeowners for Maintaining Their Environment, a group of about 900 residents near Disneyland, said Disney officials need to decide what they want to do so that the city can properly study the likely effects.
A draft environmental impact report on the project is due out this summer.
