Fire Authority Nearing Final OK of New Quarters

The Orange County Fire Authority could break ground by October on a $50-million state-of-the art training center and headquarters in Irvine.
Laguna Woods and Westminster this week became the 19th and 20th cities to approve a plan to finance a five-building complex at Jamboree and Tustin Ranch roads.
Battalion Chief Scott Brown said the Fire Authority board--elected officials from 22 cities and unincorporated areas--is expected to approve the plan July 26. The board needed approval from two-thirds of the cities and areas it represents.
The plan calls for $28.5 million in bonds, the rest coming from the authority’s reserve funds. The authority, the state’s third-largest fire agency, now uses a facility in Orange that lacks training grounds.
The new facility would include a 911 call center, offices, a vehicle maintenance center and a six-story training tower. The project could be completed by August 2003.
