The body of a man recovered from a river was the third suspected illegal immigrant to die this week in the Southern California desert, authorities said.
The unidentified man appeared to have drowned within the last two days in the New River about 15 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, said Imperial County Deputy Coroner Gary Hayes.
Authorities on Tuesday also recovered the remains of a man and woman who apparently died from heat exposure in the desert west of Calexico. The woman was identified as Rosa Jacobo Espino, 20, from the Mexican state of Michoacan. The man’s identity remains unknown, Hayes said.
