Marine Gets 9 Years for Trying to Defraud Bank

A military judge has sentenced Marine 1st Lt. Matthew Tenney to nine years in prison for scheming to steal a $2.8-million payroll.
Tenney, 25, a personnel officer, pleaded guilty to forgery, bank fraud and attempted desertion. He was arrested Jan. 30 while on his way to John Wayne Airport to catch a flight to Brazil.
Prosecutors alleged that Tenney sought to flee after his plan to hoodwink a Los Angeles bank into sending $2.8 million to Camp Pendleton was foiled by the FBI. The judge, Lt. Col. Frank Delzompo, also sentenced Tenney to be dismissed from the Marine Corps and lose all pay and benefits.
