Fire Blackens 100 Acres in Yosemite Area

A fire burned about 100 acres Tuesday in a rugged area about 20 miles from Yosemite National Park, authorities said.
As of 9 p.m., the blaze was only about 10% contained, but there was no threat to homes or other structures, said an information officer for the California Department of Forestry station in Mariposa County.
The fire started about 4:45 p.m. near Slate Creek, a steep ravine about three miles from Briceburg, a landmark that once held an old railroad stop, authorities said.
About 250 firefighters were fighting the blaze, and it was unclear when it might be under control.
