Judge to Weigh Parole Data in Killer’s Case

A judge said Thursday he would consider parole statistics in deciding whether convicted murderer Robert Rosenkrantz was improperly denied parole.
Rosenkrantz was 18 when he killed Steven Redman, 17, in 1985 after Redman told others about Rosenkrantz’s homosexuality. He was convicted of second-degree murder and is now eligible for parole, but Gov. Gray Davis has blocked his release. The Calabasas man has sued Davis, alleging the governor acted under an unconstitutional blanket “no parole policy” for murderers.
The ruling was by Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Paul Gutman.
