Abuse Prevention Center Asks for Volunteers

The Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Center needs volunteers to handle increasing caseloads, according to the director.
The center, which works with at-risk families to provide in-home parenting education and support, now has a waiting list of 60 families.
The center usually has a shortage of volunteers in June. This year, “our need is even greater because the demand for our programs has increased,” said Kathy McCarrell, the center’s executive director.
The two programs that need volunteers most are “Welcome Baby” and “Tender Care Parenting”.
Welcome Baby teaches first-time parents to work through stressful experiences. Tender Care Parenting helps parents struggling with child abuse, domestic violence, and parenting skills.
