Car Bombs in Chechnya Kill 3, Injure 34

Three people were killed and 34 were injured when three car bombs exploded in Russia’s breakaway region of Chechnya, officials said.
Chechnya’s prosecutor, Viktor Dakhnov, said the cars were parked near a courthouse and a police station in Gudermes, seat of the republic’s pro-Moscow administration. Two of the dead were civilians, and the other was a policeman, he said. Most of the injured were police officers.
Russia’s Interior Ministry said two men had been detained in connection with the blasts, according to the RIA news agency.
Local officials said the second and third bombs were timed to strike those helping to deal with the effects of the initial explosion.
