Arraignment Set for Killer-Con Woman

A 66-year-old con woman convicted of killing a wealthy Manhattan socialite last year made a brief appearance in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday after being returned to California to stand trial on charges she killed her former business partner three years ago.

At the short hearing, the judge set an arraignment for Sante Kimes for June 28.

Kimes was transported back to California on Tuesday night after giving up her yearlong battle against extradition at a hearing last week in White Plains, N.Y.

Kimes, 66, and her son, Kenneth, 26, are charged in the March 1998 shooting death of David Kazdin, of Granada Hills, whose body was found in a trash bin near Los Angeles International Airport. If convicted, the two could face the death penalty.

Sante and her son were convicted last year of murdering 82-year-old widow Irene Silverman in an effort to take ownership of her Manhattan mansion. They were sentenced to 120 years in prison for that killing.
