Price Ripe for Antelope Valley Christian
Most of the players have moved on, but the grudge still exists.
Two years hasn’t been enough time for Antelope Valley Christian High to completely forget the 77-60 trouncing it received from Price in the championship of the 1999 Southern Section Division V-A boys’ basketball playoffs.
The No. 2-seeded Eagles (22-6) get another chance today against top-seeded Price (28-3) in the V-A championship at The Pyramid in Long Beach.
Jamal Flanagan (25.0 points per game) and John Cho (16.0 points), sophomores two years ago, are centerpieces.
Flanagan, who transferred from Littlerock after his freshman year, scored 33 points in a 68-55 semifinal victory Saturday over Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian.
“He’s had a monster season,” Coach David Nurse said. “He’s been looking forward to the rematch [against Price] for a long time.”
Price, led by Christopher Alexander, who has committed to Cal State Fullerton, has been nothing short of sterling.
The defending state Division V champions have defeated J.W. North, St. Paul, Ontario and Verbum Dei, all seeded in higher playoff divisions.
