A hearing-impaired man was shot five times and killed after he fired his rifle at police during a standoff in a Scarborough parking lot.
James R. Levier, 60, died of multiple gunshot wounds, an autopsy determined.
State officials were investigating Friday’s incident, in which four officers returned fire after Levier aimed a hunting rifle at them and fired a shot, said Brian MacMaster, director of investigations for the state attorney general’s office.
Levier had participated with a group of people seeking compensation from the state for alleged sexual and physical abuse at the Gov. Baxter School for the Deaf.
