Readers Respond to Times’ New Look

I applaud your decision to add two more pages of world and national news and to push more of the local and regional news into the second section. We used to laugh at The Times when a front page consisted largely of reports on car chases, apartment fires and murder trials. Sunday’s May 6 front page was much more respectable (only one story on a local murder). Now, if you’d just stop the public employee unions from dictating the content of your editorial page, I’d love you.

I subscribe to The Times for the coverage of the L.A. Basin, and the new layout makes it harder to find. While I appreciate the extended coverage of California, surely the massive, globally vital city of Los Angeles deserves its own section in the city’s preeminent newspaper.

A mixed report card on your new design and typography changes. The editorial page looks cleaner, and I like the letter writers’ names in bold. But I don’t like the changes on the sports pages; it’s hard to spot Transactions and Notes.
