AnnTaylor Stores Corp.’s first-quarter profit fell 3% to $10.9 million, or 37 cents a share, beating expectations by 3 cents, as sales rose 11% to $307.1 million.
Campbell Soup Co. said earnings fell 12% in its fiscal third quarter to $122 million, or 30 cents a share, hurt in part by higher marketing expenses. Sales grew 3.6% to $1.44 billion. The results met analyst forecasts that had been lowered from 32 cents in February.
Factory 2-U Stores Inc., a San Diego-based discount clothing retail chain, reported a first-quarter loss of $1.4 million, or 11 cents a share, contrasted with net income of $1.6 million, or 12 cents, a year ago, as sales rose 17% to $126 million.
Payless ShoeSource Inc. said its first-quarter operating profit fell 12% to $29.7 million, or $1.30 a share, missing forecasts by a penny, as sales rose 8% to $768.3 million.
Trimedyne Inc., an Irvine maker of medical products, said its loss for the second fiscal quarter widened to $1.1 million, or 9 cents a share, from $765,000, or 7 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 33% to $2 million.
