Council Backs U.S. on Airport Security

The City Council voted Friday to support federal legislation that would require all luggage checked on domestic flights to be screened for explosives and a determination made that the passenger who checked the bag was on the plane.
In adopting a motion by Councilman Jack Weiss, the council also supported legislation to fund the use of facial recognition technology to screen passengers entering secure airport areas.
“It is critical that all luggage--not just carry-on items--be screened for explosives prior to takeoff and that all bags be matched to actual passengers,” Weiss said.
