HUD Money to Bolster 2 Firms, Business Park

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Los Angeles more than $10 million in grants and loans to help rejuvenate a blighted industrial park in Wilmington, Mayor James K. Hahn announced Thursday.
Officials said the city plans to use the money to purchase land in the Wilmington Industrial Park and to help two local businesses expand, an effort that is expected to create about 400 jobs.
The American Soccer Co., which makes soccer uniforms, will gain an additional 5.8 acres to expand its facilities. The Union Ice Co., a cold storage facility that houses frozen fish and other goods, will relocate to the industrial park and expand onto 3.4 acres of land.
The expanded businesses will replace a parking lot and vacant land.
