Democrat Joins Race for Condit’s Seat

Tom Ciccarelli, the head of a Modesto charity, became the first Democrat to announce a challenge for Rep. Gary Condit’s seat.
Ciccarelli, 52, who once campaigned for Condit, said Tuesday he was “disgusted” with the congressman’s behavior after the disappearance of former intern Chandra Levy.
Two Republicans, state Sen. Dick Monteith and City Councilman Bill Conrad, have also said they will seek Condit’s seat.
Condit has opened a campaign office and has begun gathering signatures to launch a campaign, but has not announced whether he will run next year.
