2 Missing as Mail Boat Sinks in Detroit River

From Times Wire Reports

A tugboat that carried mail to commercial vessels sailing the Great Lakes capsized and sank in the Detroit River, leaving two crew members missing, authorities said.

U.S. Coast Guard officials said the vessel, the J. W. Westcott II, went down in choppy, rain-whipped waters while attempting a mid-river rendezvous with a Norwegian tanker ship.

It was not immediately clear what caused the tug to capsize.

Two Canadian freighter pilots aboard the Westcott when it foundered were plucked to safety by the crew of a ferry that links the Canadian side of the river with Detroit.
