Training, Not Funds, Is Issue for Poll Workers

Re “Say Yes to Registrar Funds,” Sept. 9:
I want to thank you for your very positive editorial in last Sunday’s paper. I feel The Times has been very supportive of my office during the entire strategic planning process. However, I feel it necessary to point out one inaccuracy: The statement “It is unfortunate that the county still does not have money to train poll workers.” This has been a sensitive issue since Supervisor Todd Spitzer was misquoted in your news article of Aug. 23. The concern with mandatory training of poll workers is not the cost, it is the effect that mandatory training will have on recruiting poll workers. Many poll workers are willing to work, but do not wish to attend a training session. The county has had and will continue to have adequate funds for poll worker training.
