Red Cross Gives Families of Some Victims Money

The American Red Cross announced that it has begun disbursing $100 million, the first installment of cash assistance to the families of those killed or missing in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
The payments, made in lump sums to cover each family’s living expenses for the next three months, include up to $5,000 a month for rent or mortgage costs, and additional money for such things as utilities, food and funeral expenses, the organization said.
