From Times Wire Reports
Elian Gonzalez, the boy who survived a shipwreck only to spark a controversy in Cuban exile politics, is now enjoying a normal childhood, his father was quoted as saying.
“He wants to be a policeman, a TV artist or an astronaut,” Juan Miguel Gonzalez told an official newspaper. “I just tell him to keep studying and do his best.”
Elian, now 8, survived the November 1999 wreck in which his mother and 10 others drowned off Florida. Elian’s relatives in Miami fought to keep him, but the U.S. returned him to his father.
