Woman Charged in Beating Accused of Theft

Prosecutors on Friday accused a Simi Valley woman of stealing $132,000 from her husband a year before she and her teenage daughter allegedly tried to kill him with a baseball bat.
Eileen Shannon Childs, 37, was charged with felony grand theft. She and her daughter, Jennifer Lee Childs, 19, already are facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson in connection with a March 25 attack on Larry Childs.
According to court documents, Eileen Childs, who claims to suffer from lupus, had a life insurance policy allowing a $132,000 “pre-death benefit” for her husband. She is accused of forging his endorsement on a check made out to him for that sum by her insurer.
Prosecutors asked that the source of any bail money put up by Childs be investigated by the court. She and her daughter are being held in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail each.
