399 Dead in Epidemic of Flu; Experts on Way

The death toll from a flu epidemic in Madagascar has risen to 399, and more than 5,000 other cases have been recorded on the Indian Ocean island, the Health Ministry announced.
In Geneva, the World Health Organization said an international team of experts was to arrive in Madagascar today to help tackle the epidemic. The infectious illness, Type A influenza, causes headaches, neck and chest pains, and a dry cough.
Most of those who died were unable to reach a hospital or health center, or they relied on traditional remedies that failed.
