Measure of Household Debt Burden Declines

A measure of the debt burden fell in the third quarter to the lowest point in a year, the Federal Reserve said.
The household debt-service burden, which measures required payments for mortgage and consumer debt as a ratio of disposable personal income, fell to 14%.
In the most recent quarter, the consumer debt portion of the burden eased to 7.76% from 7.82%; the mortgage debt component rose to 6.24% from 6.2% in the second quarter.
