CBS settles suit over realty sign

CBS has agreed to remove images that look like Re/Max International’s for-sale yard signs from its Oct. 10 episode of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” before the television network rebroadcasts the controversial episode.
The two companies announced Monday that they settled a lawsuit Re/Max filed against CBS and its parent company, Viacom, alleging the “CSI” episode damaged the real estate company’s reputation by associating an unethical real estate agent suspected homicide with a sign similar to its trademark red-over-white-over-blue signs.
The show opened with a split-second glimpse of a for-sale sign emblazoned with red, white and blue horizontal bands similar to ReMax’s design, a fictional name and the word “Realtor.”
CBS said any similarities to the Re/Max sign were inadvertent and any negative reflection was unintentional.
CBS a week earlier also issued an apology to the National Assn. of Realtors for its alleged misuse of the term “Realtor” in the same episode.
