Judge Denies Trial Delay in Yosemite Murders

A judge denied a defense request to postpone the triple-murder trial of accused Yosemite killer Cary Stayner, but agreed to reconsider the decision next week.
Stayner, 40, could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering Carole Sund, 42, and her daughter, Juli, 15, of Eureka, and family friend Silvina Pelosso, 16, of Argentina, who disappeared while visiting the national park in 1999.
One of Stayner’s attorneys, Marcia Morrissey, sought to have the trial postponed from Feb. 25 until at least May, saying she and another attorney have not had enough time to review the evidence.
