Hound Used in Search for Girl

SAN DIEGO — Authorities used a bloodhound Tuesday to search the home of a 7-year-old girl who has been missing since Feb. 2.
Officers led the bloodhound, on loan from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, on a thorough search of Danielle van Dam’s home. Authorities were hopeful that the dog’s extremely keen nose would detect something that other dogs had missed.
Officials declined to say whether the dog found anything.
Danielle’s family says she was last seen when her father, Damon van Dam, put her to bed on Feb. 1. She was discovered missing the next morning.
Police believe she was abducted.
Investigators have seized property belonging to a neighbor of the Van Dams, David Westerfield.
