Let Marketplace Decide Fate of Hardware Store

Re “Hardware Seller Sizes Up a New Rival: Wal-Mart,” Dec. 28:

With regard to his column whining about Wal-Mart, Dana Parsons needs to spend more time in Huntington Beach talking to activists on both sides of the issue. His selective research and fuzzy conclusion that big bad Wal-Mart is to sound the death knell of poor little Crown Hardware insults the intelligence of the citizens of Huntington Beach and the integrity of its City Council. Parsons implies that the council approved the project in the face of “public protest.” In fact, Huntington Beach voters approved the Wal-Mart, a fact that Parsons conveniently omits from his column. Get over it, Dana. The people of Huntington Beach want a Wal-Mart and are smart enough to let the ebb and flow of business decide who survives.
