‘Game of Inches’

Matthew Miller laments that the Democrats are playing “a game of inches” instead of going for the whole socialist enchilada (Commentary, Jan. 11). Big news. The left has been playing the game of incrementalism for decades: slowly chipping away at our liberties, gradually eroding the Constitution, ratcheting up the size of government and the tax burden. Each new outrage is used as the basis for yet more intrusive measures. None of these odious programs or laws is ever repealed or questioned--even when they fail.
So a game of inches is nothing new to Miller and his fellow travelers. It’s what they do best.
