Going First Class
After reading “Second-Class Travelers” (Letters, July 7), I felt compelled to offer an opinion of second-class travel in Europe.
A friend and I used Eurail for the entire month of September 2000 and were thankful that we went first class.
Many times we boarded a second-class car and had to maneuver through several cars to get to an uncrowded first-class car, where the seats were very comfortable. Second class was always crowded, and I expect it will be much the same during the summer. I would advise any traveler to bite the bullet and exchange a second-class pass for first class. It’s worth not having the hassle.
