Svadgis Tabbed to Coach Baseball at Azusa Pacific

Paul Svadgis, who turned around Pomona-Pitzer’s baseball program in six seasons, has been hired at Azusa Pacific.
Svadgis was 122-107 at Pomona, including a 36-7 record last season and the school’s first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in 47 years.
Svadgis takes over for Tony Barbone, who resigned last month after 17 seasons and 516 victories. Barbone’s teams won eight Golden State Athletic Conference titles.
Other coaching changes:
* Shatony Sargeant, a Long Beach Poly High graduate who played at Fresno State and in the Arena Football League, has been hired to coach football at Panorama City St. Genevieve High.
* Marlon Buttram, a third-year walk-on softball coach, has resigned at Fullerton Troy High because of time commitments with his businesses and family.
* Sue Hall has retired as softball coach after 15 seasons at La Palma Kennedy High, where she guided the Fighting Irish to the Southern Section 3-A championship in 1988.
Hall will remain at the school as a physical education teacher.
