Lansing Leads Samba to Soccer Victory

Tracy Lansing scored her fourth goal of the tournament as the Northridge-based West Valley Samba under-16 girls’ soccer team improved to 2-0 with another shutout, 3-0, over the Texas Challenge on Thursday in the second day of round-robin competition at the U.S. Youth National Championships in Germantown, Md.
In other girls’ games, the San Diego Surf White under-19 team defeated Houston Challenge, 2-1, to improve to 2-0; the Laguna Hills Eclipse under-15 team is 1-0-1 after a 0-0 draw with Windy City (Ill.) Pride, and the Newport Beach-based Slammers FC under-14 team (2-0) beat Team Chicago, 2-1.
In boys’ play, the Blast SC (0-1-1), an under-19 team from San Bernardino, tied Chicago Magic, 3-3; the Irvine Strikers under-17 team (2-0) beat Bethesda Alliance, 2-1, to clinch a berth in Sunday’s final; the Palos Verdes Raiders under-15 team lost its second consecutive game, 2-1, to Rochester (N.Y.), and the La Jolla Nomads under-14 squad (1-1) lost, 1-0, to the Maryland Bays.
