From Times Staff Reports
Investigators at Naval Base Ventura County said a bullet that struck a woman as she walked her dog just outside the facility’s fence probably was not fired from the base.
The 51-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was shot just before noon July 17 as she walked in an isolated area of sandy berms and beachfront.
The woman drove home and called police. She underwent surgery at Ventura County Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the right hip.
Oxnard police said the investigation is continuing.
