Mass Killer Gets 13 Life Sentences

WASHINGTON
A man convicted in Seattle’s worst mass killing has been sentenced to 13 consecutive life terms without possibility of parole.
Kwan Fai “Willie” Mak, 41, was sentenced by King County Superior Court Judge Laura C. Inveen after prosecutors decided to abandon their efforts to have him once again sentenced to death.
Mak was convicted in 1983 in the deaths of 14 people at the Wah Mee gambling club. The victims were robbed, hog-tied and shot. A federal judge overturned Mak’s death sentence in 1991, saying he did not receive adequate legal counsel during the sentencing phase of his trial.
