Dell Says Sales Will Exceed Forecast

Dell Computer Corp. said third-quarter sales would rise more than forecast as the world’s second-biggest personal computer maker takes business from rivals and sells more corporate data-storage devices.
Profit in the period ending Nov. 1 will be 21 cents a share on revenue of $9.1 billion, the Austin, Texas-based company said. On Aug. 15, Dell said it would earn 20 cents to 21 cents on sales of $8.9 billion.
Dell shares gained $1.13 to $24.64 on Nasdaq before the report was released.
