Nun Says She Heeded Call to Destroy Weapons

A Catholic nun told a U.S. court that she was obeying President Bush’s call to dismantle weapons of mass destruction when she trespassed at an unguarded missile silo in Colorado.
Carolyn Gilbert and two other Dominican sisters, Jackie Hudson and Ardeth Platte, are charged with sabotage and malicious destruction of property in an Oct. 6 break-in at the Minuteman III silo near Greeley.
The three have said that they cut cables and made the sign of the cross on the lid of the silo with their own blood.
“Our president has asked that weapons of mass destruction be destroyed,” Gilbert said.
