Guerrillas Say Army Killed 11 in Air Assault

Ivory Coast’s rebels accused the army of killing 11 people in a helicopter raid on a marketplace just as rebel ministers took office in a new government aimed at ending seven months of civil war.
Aid workers said they knew of at least one death and were treating 50 people, including several children, who were wounded in the air attack on the western town of Vavoua. The rebels said 10 civilians and one rebel were killed.
An army spokesman said he was unaware of the alleged attack, while the army earlier denied its gunships had been in action at Vavoua.
