A senior Muslim guerrilla commander suspected of involvement in the 2000 kidnapping of Westerners from a Malaysian resort was captured in a clash with soldiers in the Philippines, the military said.
Galib Andang, also known as Commander Robot, was arrested during a gunfight on Jolo island, according to the island’s military chief, Col. Alexander Yapching.
Andang is suspected of involvement in the April 2000 kidnapping of 21 people who were released after months in captivity, reportedly in exchange for millions of dollars in ransom paid by Libya.
