Landslides Caused by Rains Claim 70 Lives

At least 70 people were killed when they were buried in two landslides triggered by six days of heavy rains in the Philippines, officials said.
The Office of Civil Defense said the landslides destroyed 80 houses in the towns of San Francisco and Liloan. Dozens of people were injured and the number of fatalities was expected to rise, officials said.
Rosette Lerias, the governor of Southern Leyte, said, “There are landslides all over the province.”
