Chasing freebies

I read the article “Looking for a Handout” by Mary McNamara (Dec. 14) with interest and saw it in reality last night.

Attendees leaving the “Seabiscuit” DVD release party were handed a gift bag containing the DVD, poster and a few other items. I watched a group of women with their “Seabiscuit” goodies walk across the hotel lobby and into a Thailand event at the same venue. A few minutes later they walked out with Thailand gift bags.

They couldn’t have been happier -- two gift bags in one night, one for an event they weren’t even invited to. Is this the new trend, party crashing just to get the goods?
