Irrigation District Spent $1.5 Million on Dues

The Imperial Irrigation District has paid $1.48 million in membership dues since 2001, according to information obtained under a California Public Records Act request.
The money was paid to dozens of private organizations and local service agencies, including the Colorado River Board of California and Power Technologies Inc., the Imperial Valley Press reported Wednesday.
Several of the utility’s directors were unaware that the irrigation district paid for employee memberships, they said. Division 4 Director Stella Mendoza said the district had an obligation to “train and empower” its employees, but it was important to review the expenditures.
