Gephardt and gays
YOUR article about Dick Gephardt (“Gephardt Raises the Stakes for Gay Voters,” by Johanna Neuman, June 7) ignores his unwillingness to stand up to the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996, a right-wing attempt to create prejudice against the rights of gay and lesbian Americans to marry. While it’s heartening to see Gephardt’s support for his lesbian daughter, one wonders what he was thinking when he voted to deny her right to a legal, committed relationship.
