Facing the Facts on Iraq’s Weapons

It’s time to face the facts regarding Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction: Either the money we are spending on the U.S. intelligence community is being wasted or the president of the United States is a liar -- or both. With regard to Iraq’s alleged purchase of uranium and materials to manufacture nuclear weapons, however, there is no choice. That one can’t be blamed on the intelligence community.

Re “Banned Weapons Remain Unseen Foe” and “A Review of the Evidence,” June 15: Obstinacy leads the bully to defend that which is indefensible, for the bully lacks the reason to pursue genuine diplomacy.

The first President Adams, in seeking to avoid war with France, a potential conflict with growing popularity yet which very well may have been the undoing of the young republic, spoke words that resonate with unbridled truth more than 200 years later: “Great is the guilt of an unnecessary war.”
